I used the idea of the retired Big Birthday Candles stamp to create this card. I just cut the candles with my paper cutter and the flames are made with my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. I know I say this almost every time I use that software, but I LOVE it! I have made svg files of all the Big Shot and Sizzlet dies and the punches in the Stampin' Up catalogue using Inkscape. If anybody would like directions on how to do it or copies of my files, just leave me a comment or send me an e-mail. For the flames I used the a leaf from Leaves #2 (Spring Summer 2009) and just cut off the stem. The awesome thing about the Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software is that I was able make the flame whatever size I wanted and when I decided to add a piece of white card stock behind the flame I could make it just a smidgen bigger than the flame!
I just love the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper. It says in the catalogue that it has Orchid Opulence in it, but I think Pale Plum is a much better match. This card is for my niece's 12th birthday. She loves the colour purple so hopefully this card has enough purple in it.
Thanks for looking,
Kim

Cute card! I am trying to learn to use my Quickutz Silhouette SD cutter. I'd love any pointers you can give me! I am trying to come up with my own version of the Spellbinders Nestabilities using the cutter, but I'm having trouble. I haven't used Inkscape, but I believe it is a free program, isn't it? I also use Photoshop and maybe I can design stuff there and do a "print & cut" or something. Any tips for me? I'm going to check out the rest of your blog and bookmark it. I came across it from the ScrapNfonts website and your Valentines card with the sheep on it. I have a feeling you used your cutter! :)

Hi Paula;
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your comment. I haven't been on my blog in sooooo long. I'm a teacher so September is a very busy month for me. I don't know much about the Quickutz Silhouette SD cutter, but I know I've seen stuff about it out there. Check some of Kristina Werner's posts http://www.kwernerdesign.com/blog/?s=Silhouette I use a Cricut and the Sure Cuts A Lot software. Inkscape is a free program. You could scan some pictures of the nestabilities and then use Inkscape to make them into the files you need for your cutter. Try searching the internet for people with Quickutz. Good Luck!

Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteLove your site. I am very much interested in the copies of the files you mentioned on your blog. I am very new at this and I have the quickutz Epic 6, the Cricut Expression and Sure Cuts A Lot 2. But as you know, all of the extras are so very expensive. I downloaded Inkscape, but can't figure it out yet. I am still in the playing around process. I have made some cards, but nothing compared to what you have done. Your work is beautiful. Thanks for your inspriration.
I just found your site today. I'm a teacher, too, so I know it's a busy time for you. If you have time, though, and if you're still offering...I'd like your svg files for for the punches and Sizzlet dies. Thanks for inspiring me!

Kim,
ReplyDeleteI would very much like to have the Big Shot and Sizzlet dies and the punches in the Stampin' Up catalogue using Inkscape. I have SCAL and a Cuttlebug I use for embossing.
