50th Kaleidoscope Birthday

This card was inspired by two cards - Jane's and Karen's. I have never made a stair step or accordion card before. I followed the tutorial found splitcoaststampers.com, but I ended up making my card narrower. It was lots of fun and I think it makes a special card for a special birthday.

Delight in Life Anniversary

As I was creating this card, I was thinking that I should change the name of my blog or create a challenge that has something to do with using retired sets as that seems to be what I use on many of my cards. I love all the new stuff out there, but since, as my husband once put it, I'm practical and sensible, I have a hard time buying a lot of new stuff when I have barely used the stuff that I have.

The idea for my card came from this card. Surprisingly, I didn't use my Cricut at all for this card. I'm in the middle of resticking my Cricut mats and I should get this card in the mail right away so I worked without my Cricut. I created the scallop using 1 1/4" circles cut in half and then glued on the strip of Certainly Celery.

Birthday Cat

The other day on Splitcoast Stampers, there was a discussion about tips for using the Cricut and what cartridges to buy. I almost chimed in that there is no need to buy cartridges because of software like Sure Cuts A Lot or Making the Cut. Then I remembered that Provocraft, the malefactor of the Cricut has one a lawsuit that makes it illegal for the software developers to make software that will work with the Cricut. It's too bad because when my Cricut dies (Hopefully not soon!), I'll be looking to replace it a cutter that will allow me to use software with it so I can cut almost anything I wish with it.

Today's card was cut using a doodle bat font called DB Animal Valentine that I purchased from ScrapNfonts a few years ago. I just separated the parts in Sure Cuts A Lot and then cut away with my Cricut. I've created the card for my niece who loves cats.

Tiny Paper Roses

I have been reading Julie's blog for years. When I saw her tutorial for mini paper roses, I decided to give it a try. They were incredibly easy and oh, so cute! I don't have the punches that she uses, but once again SCAL and my Cricut came to the rescue. I cut the flowers out at 0.5" and the "leaves" at 0.6". If anybody would like the svg files, just e-mail me and I'll send them your way.

When I was finished, I had these three darling little roses, but no idea how I would use them as they don't really suit my style of card-making. Plus most of the cards I create are CASEd from someone! ;-) After a bit of fiddling, I came up with this card, which I think suits my style. The card reminds me of the wedding invitations that I created for my mom three years ago.

I created this card for a friend of mine who is starting work at a new school today. She is and CEA (Certified Educational Assistant) and she has transferred from my school to another one in our district. She is a great friend and an awesome CEA who will be missed a great deal at my school. I know she has a few butterflies about starting a new position at a new school so I wanted to create something to start her day reminding how awesome she is!

I'm not thrilled with the picture of this card as it doesn't capture the brightness of the letters. I used all colours from the old SU Bold Brights colour family. It is truly a cheery card in real life!

I'm on a roll now... that's 4 Christmas cards done! I know it is not much, but it is 4 more finished than I had done last year at this time!

My Cricut and SCAL software came in handy for this little project. I wanted some sort of border around the greeting, but I didn't want just a plain rectangle. With SCAL, I was able to take my top note svg file and make it proportional to the size of the rectangle for the greeting!

I'm back to blogging. I've made lots of cards (by my standards) in the weeks since I last posted, but I didn't have time to get them up on my blog. I am getting smarter though because I made note of what I used as I made them! Hopefully you'll be seeing quite a few cards from me over the next few weeks.

Julie's card was my inspiration for this card. I love the "Flaky Friends" set, but I'm not sure I love the tiny bits to colour. I'm also not sure how well this will mail with the little clothes pin... it will have to be a hand delivered card or one that gets tucked in a parcel. Well, that is three Christmas cards done so far... oh, my!

I have a ton of ribbon from Costco that is pretty, but I struggle with using because the colours don't match with my Stampin' Up card stock and most of the ribbon is one sided. I did manage to create this card using up some of the ribbon. I LOVE these colours together!

This is another card that I made a few months ago and am only now getting around to posting. I really hope I stop doing that as it is tough trying to remember details about the card - like who did I give it to! This was a pretty quick and easy card to create. I used my Cricut and SCAL software for the Chocolate Chip circle and the scalloped circle. I like using a punch for cutting out stamped images like the tree and the sentiment. It is just so much easier to center things.

Scalloped Anniversary

Well, this card is definitely my own creation. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It took a lot of fiddling to get it to this point. I made it for my niece and her husband's anniversary. I was thinking that the designer paper was similar to her bridesmaids' dresses. Then I looked back at photos and realized that wasn't her wedding I was remembering, it was her sister's!!! Good thing I didn't say anything about it inside the card.

I've completed my SECOND Christmas card! I'm not sure how many I'll have by December at this rate, but I know two people will get Christmas cards!!!

The colours I've used for this are not traditional Christmas colour, but I like them together. I coloured the snowman with my Stampin' Up watercolor pencils and then blended it with my Blender Pen. You can't really see in the picture, but I have put glitter on the snowflakes and the stars.

I received these stamps for my birthday from my mom back in April and I"m just using them now. I love snowmen and this guy makes me smile.

Vintage Style

The card above is very much not my style, but I love it. Many moons ago, I went over to Erin's house and Lisa helped me create a card in her style. You can check out their blog here. I've been saving this card for my mom's birthday, which is today. I know she will love it as she is quite the seamstress and has taught me much of what I know about sewing.

This is what I place on the inside of the card in the bottom right corner. The stamp of the top of the spool of thread really reminds me of the old spools of thread from my Grandma's sewing basket that we had in our sewing box when I was growing up.

Since these were not my supplies, I really can't tell you who made them ... I think they may be Papertrey Ink. If you really need to know, I'm sure Lisa could help you out.

Doodle That Heart

There are so many things that I like about Paula's card which was the inspiration for my card. I like the clean and simple layout, the layer of embossed paper on top of the same colour. I also like the white behind the scalloped green. I think this is the way the stamp is so I decided to recreate the look with paper.

I don't own that stamp set, so I created my version using a different stamp set. Once again my trusty Cricut came in handy to create the scallop circles and the circle. It is so nice to be able to make whatever size I wish! It allowed me to create the same look that Paula achieved with a stamp. I like how my colouring turned out on the heart. I used some marker ink scribbled on a plastic lid and then picked up and coloured with my blender pen.

I was going to keep my card just like Paula's, but the more I looked at mine, the more I felt like it was missing something. I decided to add the "ribbon" of stamped heats.

The idea for this card came from gardenmom's card on Splitcoast Stampers. While it isn't a 100% CASE, my modifications are really only because of the supplies I have available to me. I didn't try the shower door embossing. I just ran my card stock through my Big Shot with a square of box board to create the impression on the base, which is hard to see in the photo. I cut my "Birthday Wishes" into two pieces as it is much more versatile that way. This is the first and only clear mount Stampin' Up set that I own. I can't say that I'm thrilled with them. I find they don't always cling to the acrylic block. Does anybody have any suggest for this problem?

I love, love, love this card by Heather! While my card is a very close case of hers, just a change of the stamp sets used, I am still quite proud of it as it took quite a bit of effort to get this final result. First I had to practise my brayering. A couple of things that helped me was I inked up the Certainly Celery and then used a tissue to wipe a bit off of the top of the Certainly Celery strip near the middle of the brayer. Then I inked on the Tempting Turquoise and also wiped a bit of it off at the middle of the brayer. I also ran the brayer on scrap paper a couple of time to soften it a bit before I put it on my card stock. I created my oval template using my Cricut (Man, I love that machine!). I used some two way glue around the edge of the oval to temporarily hold down the oval... just make sure the glue dries before you put the template on your card stock.

I don't own the Upsy Daisy stamping set, so I've been using this Hero Arts one in its place. Most of the time it works, but I'm not thrilled at how the flowers are cut off at the bottom of the image on the card. Since it took me MULTIPLE tries to get the brayered oval and then MULTIPLE tries to get a clean stamp of the flowers, I'm going to accept this not quite perfect sample. I read that Heather also had a tough time getting a good stamped imaged and I did too with this stamp. What ended up working best for me was putting the card stock on top of the stamp and pressing it into the stamp.

My niece lives in Alberta and has been struggling to get her learner's permit for driving. She has failed the test multiple times because she hasn't studied. Her mother said that she was no longer paying for her to take the test. I told Emma that if she passed the test in the next month, I would pay for the test. She did it so I had to create a card for her in her favourite colour to send along with the cheque. I picked this svg file up from here. There was a problem with the on-line delivery of it, so the owner was so kind to refund me the dollar I spent to purchase the file. I think they've corrected the problem and you certainly can't complain about their customer service.

I must say that I am much more proud of cards I create without CASEing them completely. I started with Mary's card as inspiration, but I ended up changing quite a bit of the card as I went along. I really like Mary's card, but decided to use brighter colours that I think my niece would like. Then I change the orientation of the card because when I was in my white scraps, I found a piece already embossed with the Happy Birthday embossing folder, which can only go one way. To create the flowers for this card, I used the Sure Cuts A Lot software with the doodle bat font, DB Floragraphy from Scrap 'N Fonts. The largest is 1 inch wide, the middle, 0.8 and the smallest 0.6 inch wide.

This card is almost a complete CASE of Jen's card. I love hers so much that it seemed a shame to change anything! ;-) I've created this card for my nephew-in-law. As you can see it is a masculine card with stars. He received a tree card last year so I guess I'll alternate between trees and stars each year!

A few years ago I did a designer series paper share. We each got a 6x6 sheet of all the different DSP that was available that year. I love having such a great assortment of paper available to me, even if they are all retired now. As a card maker and not a scrapbooker, the 6x6 size is perfect for me.

Superhero Cards

We were very blessed to have our eight year old nephew visiting us from Red Deer. He and his mom have been coming every summer for years, but this year, he got to spend five days alone with us while his mom went to San Francisco. We had a great time together.

Jacob likes to make cards with me. Last year, we created this Superman card, which I guess I didn't take a picture of.. it looked very similar to these cards - a clean and simple layout of a blue card with a red and yellow Superman logo. He is still into superheros so when we went to the movies together, I saw the advertisment for the Captain America movie and knew that we could easily create his log using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. One card wasn't enough for him, so we went searching for easy superhero logos to create. We made the Green Lanter logo using rectangles and circles from SCAL and then we found the Batman logo svg on Annel's blog. He was so thrilled that he declared that he wanted a Cricut for his birthday. I knew his mom would love to get him one because she is a wonderful crafter... but alas, Jacob declared that if he got one he was going to keep it in his room!

I'm going to search for more simple superhero logos to cut with the Cricut and then send him the parts so he can assemble some cards at home. If you know of any great svgs, or have an idea, let me know!

Mother's Day Quail

I'm still catching up on posting cards I created and didn't blog...

On my second Saleabration order I realized that I could order stuff from the catalogue as my free item -don't ask me how I missed that the first time! I was so excited to get the "Happy Together" stamp set because my mom loves quails. The three little quails remind me of my brothers and I... I'm the one in the middle beaking off to my younger brother, who is most likely whining and my older brother is just off doing his own thing!

Anyways... I started out CASEing Stacey's card because it is so cute. I ended up changing a few things. I really liked her square layout, but my bashful blue ribbon was too wide for that layout so I switched to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. I also do not have basic grey ink or corduroy button so I changed those details.

Happy Birthday Balloons

I recently discovered Stamper Camper's Corner. I love Mary's style! I fell in love with this card, but I don't own any of the stamps that Mary used. So I created a similar card using my Cricut, Sure Cuts A Lot software and some designer paper. I used the Berlin Sans FB Demi font. I created the balloons using three circles and a triangle and merged them together in SCAL. I created this for my nephew's 8th birthday and I was hoping to get the 8 from the impression plate to be a part of the card, but it didn't quite work that way. The 8 is too close to the edge of the plate to be able to put it where I needed it on the paper.

Trendy Trees Thank You

The problem with taking pictures of cards and then not blogging about them right away is you might forget who you made the card for and you might forget who to give credit to for your inspiration. I still can't remember who I made this card for, but I was able to figure out where my inspiration came from.

I usually keep the links of cards that I like in Diigo, an on-line bookmarking service. I like it better than just using Favorites in Internet Explorer because I can keep an album of the pictures rather than just the link, so it is really quick to look through. I also like Diigo because when I save a link, I can access it from any computer, not just the computer I used when I found the link.

Normally I find cards from blogs that I read and I just save the links of ones I would like to make. When I started to write about this card, which I knew I had not created from scratch, I couldn't find the link for the inspirational card in my Diigo bookmarks. Then I remembered that I had done a Google image search for "Trendy Trees" and had found this card by Rachel. Phew! I would hate to copy a card and not give credit where credit is due!

Pet Sympathy

I wanted to make a pet sympathy card for my stepmom, who recently had to put down her dog. Beila, was a wonderful dog, who was very special to my dad, who passed away a few years ago. The only dog stamp I have is much too cute for a sympathy card, so I decided to use a photo of Joyce and Beila. In Photoshop Elements, I changed the photo to sepia and removed the background using the magic extractor. I then printed up a quote that I found on the Internet. It says,

"A dog is more than a pet

They enrich our lives,

and touch our hearts forever."

I'm sending the card along with the Willow Tree Angel of Friendship.

Very Merry Wild Christmas

I REALLY want to have most of my Christmas cards made before December arrives. I had wanted to make three a month, but here it is July and I'm only on my first one. Well, at least I'm off work for July and August so hopefully I'll be able to get a few done.

Jenn's card provided me with the inspiration for my card. Once again I used my Cricut to create parts of the card. The scallop circle is just like SU scalloped circle punch. Heather M. provided me with instructions on how to create a scalloped circle with a specific number of scallops plus she made me a 14 scallop scalloped circle that you can find here. I also used my Cricut and SCAL software to create the green layer for the white piece punched from the word window punch as well as the green circle.

A Birthday to Crow About

My library assistant loves crows so I've created this card for her birthday. I used the crow from the freebie Banner Day SVG set from Lettering Delights and the balloon from the Birthday Celebration clip art set. I can only find the Banner Day SVG in my account so I can't link directly to it. Perhaps you only get it once you sign up because it is a freebie. I just opened the crow right in Sure Cuts A Lot, broke it apart and the cut it. The balloon image had to be traced first, but that only takes a second in SCAL.

FTL 131

I hope my sister-in-law likes this funky birthday card that I created using Becky's interpretation of the FTL #131 on the Clean & Simple blog. One thing that helped make this card come together smoothly was that I glued my DSP paper on to some chipboard (cardboard from the back of the DSP package) before I cut it. I then used the multi-cut feature on Sure Cuts A Lot to cut the flower twice so it made it through all the layers. The flower is just from the SCAL Basic Shapes library. I cut the small ones at 2.5" by 2.205 and the large one at 3.25" x 2.874. The centers are just some DSP glued on chipboard and then punched out at 1/2" and 3/4".

Well, this is almost a complete CAS of Patty's card. Sometimes I wonder if I should post cards that are so similar to someone else's and then I remind myself that my first reason for keeping a blog is so that I have a record of what I've created. I also think that it doesn't hurt to highlight cards made by others - perhaps my few followers don't know of Patty's work and will enjoy seeing her delightful card!

I liked this card so much that I've made it as a thank you card, a birthday card and a get well card. It is just so bright and cheery! Each one had a few minor changes.

On this little crafting journey of mine, one of many things I have learned is to NEVER buy ribbon that only has one good side. It is such a PAIN to tie!

Branch Out Birthday

The inspiration for the colour scheme and layout of this card came from Beth's card. Beth had made her card for a challenge titled "Branching Out", which made me think of using my Branch Out stamp set. I swapped Regal Rose for Pretty in Pink because I have DSP in Regal Rose, but not in Pretty in Pink! I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut the 3" circle and the scallop circle. The scallop circle is from Two Peas in a Bucket and is cut at 3.25". Looking at the picture of the card, I'm wondering if I should have tried framing the sentiment with Regal Rose.

Through the Trees Birthday

As simple as this card looks, it took me FOREVER to create. First, my Stampin' Up white craft ink did not do a very nice job of covering the trees. After about 5 tries, I decided that I would emboss them. After accidentally pouring clear embossing powder on the trees, I finally got it right with the white embossing powder.

Next came sentiment problems. I had it crooked on the acrylic block and then when I finally got it right, I smudged it while it was drying... that's the problem with using VersaFine ink. I love how crisp the black is, but it does take time to dry. Then I decided it needed brads so I need a longer piece of paper so off I went to stamp it again... of course it was after I had already cleaned the stamp! It is still slightly crooked, but I've decided that is what is going to give it that homemade look! ;-)

The black trees on the card base also took two tries. It was hard to see the black tree trunks on the black card stock. When I went to stamp the leaves, I messed it up... the second time I stamped the leaves and then the trunks. It was a little easier, but still difficult to see.

Anyone who has stamped with me in person can well imagine how the cutting of the bird went for me. I hate cutting out small things and the bird is TINY! I needed my Ott Lite and my cheater glasses!

My inspiration for this card for my brother-in-law came from Lisa's card.

Valentine's Day Frame

I used Julie's card for inspiration for my daughter's Valentine's Day card. I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to create the frame. I was thinking of using my Nesties, but the SCAL software made it easy to make sure the two rectangles were perfectly centered. I just centered both rectangles to the mat both vertically and horizontally. I also cut the scalloped border using the Stack of Borders Scallops form My Scrap Chick One problem I had was that on SCAL the scalloped border was set to be 5.25". but it cut out smaller than that. To get it to be 5.25" long, I needed to cut it at 5.37". I would like to find a border with smaller scallops, but I didn't have time to look today. Can anyone point me towards one?

ETA - If you look closely at the black mat around the DSP frame, you'll see that the corners have a tiny ticket corner punch. This was because I tried to ticket punch the Rose Red piece and it caught a smidgen of the black. I didn't like the ticket corner punch look for this card, so I replaced that piece of Rose Red.

Quick and Easy Masculine Valentine

The idea for my husband's Valentine's Day card this year came from the Clever Someday blog. I used the on-line program ImageChef to create the image for the card. I then imported the image into PhotoShop Elements and "poured" what I thought was going to be Real Red into some of the words. You can change the colours of individual words on the site, but I wanted to colour match. Unfortunately, the RGB numbers I used for Real Red, did not match my card stock. Luckily, they did match Riding Hood Red. Next time I'll try another set of specifications I have for Real Red. After that, I just cut out the image, mounted it on Riding Hood Red card stock and put it on a black base and was good to go!

Valentine Ladybug

When I was in Michael's last week, I came across this lady bug stamp in the $1.50 bin. It has three little ladybugs on it in a row. Instead of dots, the ladybugs have hearts. I knew that it was the perfect stamp for my mom's Valentine's Day card as she loves ladybugs because her last name is Bugg!

My intention was to create a card with a row of ladybugs inside a scallop edge. That plan did not come together and instead I end up with this card with only one ladybug on it... though I did also put one on the inside and one on the envelope!

Then the card sat on my desk waiting to have the envelope addressed and when I came back to it tonight, I decided that it needed something more. So I added a layer of a basic black card stock and a scallop circle created with my Cricut, Sure Cuts A Lot software and a svg file from Two Peas in a Bucket and this is how it turned out:

I created this birthday card for one of my best friends who is also now my sister-in-law. Her favourite colour is orange so every year I try to incorporate some orange into her card. I like this colour combination and I hope she does too. She's had a wonderful past year, meeting the love of her life so I'm excited to see what the coming year has in store for her.

The inspiration for this card came from Sandy's card. I've changed the colours and the stamp sets, but the layout is the same.

Brown Bear" is a children's book. As an elementary school librarian, I can't tell you how excited I was to find this quilt pattern!
3. If I had more time, I could easily add more hobbies to my life. Recently I have been intrigued by cupcake and cookie decorating. I haven't taken the bite yet...
4. I love Motown music. Have you heard Phil Collins new cd - he's singing Motown classics!
5. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I do enjoy sitcoms like "The Big Bang Theory".
6. I enjoy reading - surprising statement from a librarian! I just wish I could find enough time to read all the books on my reading list.
7. I love to research things - another surprising statement from a librarian! I love learning new things!
8. My husband and I enjoy geocaching.

I was thrilled to make this card as I am sending it to a special young lady who is going to be celebrating her one year anniversary of being drug and alcohol free!!!!! I am so incredibly proud of her for all the obstacles she has overcome in her life. The day before her anniversary, she will be starting college to become an addictions counsellor! Yahoo!

Natasha's card was my inspiration for this card. I love her use of bright colours and I love that this card is not too "girly" which will really suit the recipient.

50th Birthday Card

We're off to a surprise party tonight for a friend who is turning 50. I created this card using Maile Belle's 30th birthday card as inspiration. I cut the numbers, scalloped circle frame and the other frame with my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. The scalloped circle is from Two Peas in a Bucket. The Pale Plum piece is just scalloped circle f from the same file squished. I'm wishing now that I had put the numbers on more of a slant, but I was struggling with them and finally got fed up and went with straight. I should have walked away for a bit and came back and tried it. Oh well!

17th Birthday Celebration

Well, I almost royally goofed up this card. I had it in my head that it was my nephew's 16th birthday coming up so I was very set on using the number 16 on the card. After I had cut out 16 using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software, but thank goodness BEFORE I had glued it down, I did a little math and realized that no, he is already 16 and is turning 17! Another quick cut to swap the 6 to a 7 and I was set to go. I used the Arial Black font for the numbers.

Winter Birthday

When I saw Heather's card last night, I just HAD to duplicate it for my niece's birthday card. The only problem was that I don't have snowflake stamps that are the right size for this layout. When I woke up at 4:30!!!!! this morning I pondered going to the nearest stamping store (25 minutes of highway driving), but really thought that I was being a bit impulsive. I then thought I'd find out if my two stamping friends had snowflake stamps, but knew I had better wait until a much more reasonable hour. And then it hit me - I could use my Cricut to create snowflakes instead!

Thanks to my Cricut, Sure Cuts A Lot software and a free svg of snowflakes from My Cricut Scrapbooking, I eventually came up with a card. I really like Heather's clear embossed tiles, but when I tried to duplicate it, it made my snowflakes quite yellow. I'm not sure if it is because of my embossing powder or if it is because I was embossing on white paper snowflakes rather than white embossed snowflakes. Does anybody have any words of wisdom?

When I was going to comment on Heather's card, I noticed Chrissie's comment stating that she had done her own version. I also checked that one out and it is quite lovely and worth having a peak at! So, I decide to try again and this is what I came up with:

I'm to too thrilled with the pictures of these cards. I think they look better in real life. There is a scored line on the top and the bottom of the navy panel that you can't see in the picture and you can't tell that the squares on the second card are popped up. I wish I could figure out how to take better pictures of cards - especially on these drab winter days!

I created this birthday card for my sister-in-law using a Elizabeth Crafts Designer Sticker from Funky Cakes. This time I coloured the cake using my Stampin' Up markers. I like the bold, funky look of the card. I've taken a few closer up pictures of the stickers so you can see how beautiful they are. They are like embossing, but neater and shinier.

I think this is the last of my Christmas bird cards. I created this one for my daughter and her boyfriend and tucked to ski passes to the local mountain inside. The penguin is a svg file from My Scrap Chick . I created the snowflake from an image of the SU Original Dies - Snowflake #2 just like I did on this card. Both images are cut using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software.

I created this card for my brother-in-law's mother who LOVES birds and nature. Again, I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software along with a svg file from My Snowman Collection created by My Scrap Chick. I also used the SCAL software to create the labels. I just used the Designer Label punch image from Stampin' Up to create a svg file and then I stretched it to fit my sentiment and then enlarged it slightly to create a frame. I used this for a Christmas card, but it could be used for just a winter card... just trying to justify posting Christmas cards in January! I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut the svg file from My Snowman Collection, created by My Scrap Chick. I found it best to do a multicut for the white part of the words so it would be a clean cut with the tiny snowflakes.

Folded Christmas Tree

This idea for a Christmas tree intrigued me the first time I saw it on Connie's blog. I don't have any long Christmas sentiments so I used a brush set in Photoshop Elements to create the sentiment. I can't find the set on the Internet, but I believe I got it from scrapgirls.com. It is called JHI Life Quotes3. On my quest to find something for the top of the tree, I learned that you can emboss on top of brads, so my silver brad is now gold!

Glittery Snowflake

For this card, I used SCAL software to trace an image (actually a screen shot from the on-line catalogue) of the SU Original Dies - Snowflake #2 and then cut it out using my Cricut. I used Papertrey Ink's Stamper's Select card stock for the snowflake because it is so much thicker than SU. Because it is so thick, I had to used the multicut feature to cut the image twice. I used the Silver Tinsel embossing powder that was a hand me down from my sister-in-law. I love how it sparkles! This card was inspired by my friend, Erin's card.

The inspiration for this Dasher card came from Jaydee's card . I love her use of the half circle. I also tried a new technique that I learned from StampTV for making an embossed metallic edge. I made three versions of this card, one without the scalloped circle and then two with different scalloped circles. This one is my favourite. I used my Cricut and SCAL software to create the circles and scalloped circle. I picked up the scallop circle svg files from Two Peas in a Bucket .

Well, it had been a LONG time since I had posted and I'm trying to make up for that today. I was quite busy making Christmas cards this past month. I haven't made many Christmas cards in the past because I have had boxed cards to use up. Well this year, I only had a few boxed cards left, so I've started creating cards to mail out... the five I have left will go to people that don't know that I make cards! :0) In 2011 I plan to make at least 3 cards a month so that I don't have this mad rush to try and get cards created plus written and addressed to send out! You may wonder why post Christmas cards when the event is done. Well, my main reason for this blog is for my own record of the cards I've made so I'm posting them. Plus, maybe some of you are going to be like me and get a jump start on next year! Good Luck!

Most of the Christmas cards that I've been making have been using the cute Dasher stamp that I received last year from my friend and demo, Erin. What a cute stamp and so many great cards can be made with it! The idea for this one came from Erika's card.

Mitten Card

Oh My! I haven't posted since OCTOBER! I have made a quite a few cards since then so my plan today is to get them up here on my blog. One of my goals is to start 2011 with lots of things cross off of my "To Do List" and one of my goals for 2011 is not to make such big "To Do Lists"... sometimes I think I defeat myself before I even start!

I made this card for a friend of my mom. She was so sweet to knit a special pair of extra warm mitts for me because my hands are always so cold. I used a free pattern from My Scrapchick for the mitten box. I just modified the jpg file using Photoshop Elements so that it would be a card rather than a box. If you have a Cricut and either Sure Cuts A Lot software or Making the Cut software, My Scrapchick is a great source of SVG files. It is worth signing up for their weekly newsletter as they have a free pattern each week as well as highlight their new releases.

Autumn Masculine Birthday

When I stopped by Splitcoast Stampers yesterday morning to post a card, Ravengirl's card jumped out at me! I just LOVE the simplicity of it. Of course, I only own two leaf stamps and I don't have a "Happy Birthday" stamp as large as the one she used so I had to get a little creative. I printed the Happy Birthday sentiment in Microsoft Word using text boxes so I could get the "Happy" right on top of "Birthday". I used one of my favourite fonts - Century Gothic. The rest of the design of the card was also inspired by Ravengirl's card. On first my look at her card, I thought the white was mounted on coloured card stock. I later realized that it is actually a coloured background for the picture! Which is great for me because that means I didn't CASE the card as much as I used it for a starting point for creating my own ;) ! You know what they say, "Imitation is the sincerest flattery!"... hopefully others feel the same way!

Hoppy Birthday

I created this card for a good friend who adores frogs. The frog is from the Nature Hike clip art set from Lettering Delights. This clip art set is one of many freebies available from Lettering Delights right now. I created the two layers in Photoshop Elements and then used my Cricut Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut it out. The only thing I would do differently if I were to make this card again is that I would use the Cricut for the mouth instead of drawing it. I think I would cut it out of the light green layer and then put some black paper behind it. It is a bit hard to see in the picture, but the light green paper has been embossed with the "Leather" Fiskars texture plate using my Big Shot.

Fifth Avenue Floral Watercolouring

I made this card pretty well copying Julie's card using the tutorial by Patty. Since I needed two birthday cards, I decided to remake it making a few changes.

I added some yellow ink to the flowers, which you can't really see in the picture. I also rounded the corners of the Regal Rose background paper. For both cards, I had cut the top note with my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software, but for the second card, I decided to not keep the dimensions the same, but try and match them to the cards' dimension by using a width of 5" and height of 3.75 inches. I don't like it as much as the size I used in the first card. I also decided to emboss the top note piece on my second card so that made me change the way I did the sentiment. Both cards use the little leaves created with my Cricut and SCAL software, but I used Certainly Celery for the first card and Mellow Moss for the second.

I created this card for my soon-to-be 15 year old niece. I used the flower from the Banner Day Clip Art set from Lettering Delights, which is a freebie right now. Using Photoshop Elements, I separated the pieces and filled them in with black. I then used my Sure Cuts A Lot software to trace and then cut each piece with my Cricut. My colour choices were inspired by the actual colours used on the clip art. I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the sentiment on the leaves. I just put tape over the word I didn't want inked, inked the stamp and peeled off the tape.

Thank you to Alison for the inspiration for this card I have created for my dear friend, Sylvia. We have been friends for 30 years, but haven't lived in the same province for more than 25!

I made the butterflies using the free program, Inkscape to create SVG files of the SU Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Dies. Then I cut them out using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. I picked up the label svg from Maria's blog. I love using the Cricut and SCAL software for this type of thing because I can play with the size of the shape on the screen to get it just right - like I did for the frame of the label.

Recipe Binder

My daughter has moved out and is struggling a little with cooking. I created this simple recipe binder for her using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. I used the Porky font which I picked up free from the Internet many years ago. The chef's hat is a free svg file that I picked up off of Beth's blog.

First I cut out the image in black. Then in Photoshop Elements, I opened the jpg included in the file and filled the shape in with black. I then used SCAL to trace the image so I could cut out the white part. I made it slightly smaller than the black outline so the white wouldn't show on the edge of the black.

My plan is to make my daughter a favourite casserole of hers each week and take a serving over to her along with the recipe and the ingredients she most likely doesn't have... like spices! I had forgotten all the little things that you need when you first move out!

I originally made this card without the ribbon for a masculine card, but then needed a birthday card for a female friend so I quickly added the ribbon to "girly" it up! This was a quick and easy card to make. I used my Cricut and SCAL software to make the scalloped square and the yellow square. I used my paper cutter for the white square because I only needed to cut three straight sides and then use scissors for the top.

Using My Costco Ribbon

A number of years ago, Costco had rolls of ribbon for sale. I loved it and received some for my birthday. Unfortunately, the pattern is not on both sides which makes it difficult to use for bows. Also, the colours don't quite match Stampin' Up colours and since I like to be matchy-matchy, it has sat in my cupboard with little use. Today, Kristina Werner created a card for MACM (Make A Card Monday) that I knew would be perfect for my Costco ribbon. Here's the little card I made for my brother and his wife's anniversary:

The card is 5" square a little larger than Kristina's and the inside square is 4 1/2" square. It is hard to see my inside panel that is popped up on dimensionals. I cut my heart with my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. Since I don't have a wood grain background stamp, I used the Waves texture plate in my Big Shot. (I was thinking I would use my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder, but then realized that the square was too large for the folder. I'm glad because I like the look of the wavy lines.)

Sorry, this isn't a great picture - too many rainy days to get decent light and I needed to give it away.

I have almost totally copied Becky's card. I used the same layout, similar colours (just different paper manufacturers) and a different sentiment. Thanks to Lisa for creating the SVG file to make the flower with my Cricut!

Reverse Nesties

I used Gina K's Reverse Nesties idea for this card, but instead of using Nesties, I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. I don't have a Bow Easy, but I used the idea of it as demonstrated by Gina in the video, but instead of the tool, I used my fingers. I like how my bow turned out!

Dragon and Knight

My nephew turned 7 today and this is the card I made for him. He had his party last weekend and it was a knight and princess party. I used the Once Upon a Time set from myscrapchick.com to make the dragon and the knight using my Cricut and SCAL software. I really found the spikes on the dragon too tiny to cut and to glue so I made them larger than what they were supposed to be for that size of a dragon.

I had another masculine card to make so out comes the stars!!!! I wish I could think of something else to do besides stars and trees! Andrea's card was my inspiration for this card. After making this card, I decided I am really going to focus on getting some bright DSP that will work for masculine cards.

Star Shaped Card

I created this card for my brother using my Cricut and SCAL software. Donelda's card gave me the inspiration. I used Kristina Werner's pattern to create a svg file to use with SCAL. I'm wishing now that I had popped the turquoise star up using dimensionals... oh well! I did straighten out the circle after I took the picture so the star points line up.

Field of Flowers

Here is the other stamp I bought on my craft store research trip with Erin and Lisa. I coloured the Hero Arts stamp with my SU markers and then misted it lightly before stamping. It took me three tries to get this right. The first one had too much water. For the second one I tried it on watercolour paper and it was too harsh. I like how this one turned out... but can you see a goof? I'm going to try it again with a little more water. My last three cards have really shown how much I am going to miss all the Bold and Bright colours that Stampin' Up is retiring!

Here is one of the new stamp sets I bought last weekend. It is a clear stamp set and I struggled with getting a crisp looking image using my SU ink. It helped to "erase" the stamp with a white eraser. I also put the stamp in VersaMark first and then the SU ink... I think I need to play a little more with using the clear stamps. I like the clear stamps, but I'm wondering if I should try a different brand of ink. The VersaFine ink works well, but I only have it in black and brown. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to play around a bit more.

Watercoloured Birthday Cake

I had the pleasure of going with Erin and Lisa on Saturday to check out two scrapbooking stores. I didn't pick up a ton of new stuff, but I loved having the time to check everything out and get inspired. I managed to make three new cards yesterday! The afternoon of shopping certainly picked up my spirits! Thanks, Erin and Lisa!

This card was created using an Elizabeth Craft Designs sticker on watercolour card stock. I love the look of these stickers. They are like embossing, but thicker and shinier. The watercolour card stock is thicker than the watercolour paper I was using before. It is really nice to work with. I coloured the cake with Stamping Up markers and then used my aqua painter. I love the bright bold look of the cake.

Paper Flower

I learned how to make this flower from Julie's tutorial. The flower is not hard to make, but it took me FOREVER to put this card together because I wasn't copying someone else's card.

I cut the frame for the sentiment using Sure Cuts A Lot software and my Cricut. I didn't create the frame svg and I feel badly that I didn't keep the name of the person or the website that I got it from. If someone recognizes it, please let me know and I'll give them credit. The leaves are also cut using the SCAL software and my Cricut. I created that svg from the picture in the Stampin' Up catalogue. I used my Cricut with the Mini Monogram cartridge to cut out the scalloped circles for the flower. I could have used SCAL, but the cartridge was in my Cricut so why not use it!

Hoppy Birthday

Oh my, it has been a loooooong time since I've posted. I've made a few cards in the last two months, but haven't yet posted them. My laptop died about a month ago which has really messed me up. I had hopes of getting it back up and running but that doesn't look like it is possible so now I'm in the process of loading my backup of programs and documents on to our desktop... what a pain.

I made this card for my nephew who will be 10 next week. I used Aimes's card for inspiration. The inside is stamped with the sentiment "Hoppy Birthday". I think he'll find it cute.

I got the layout and the idea for the scallop frame from Caroline's card, which has been in my favourites for a year and a half!!! I really liked this card, but now that I look at the pictures, I wonder if the scalloped circle is a little too large for the card.

Trendy Trees

Okay, this is another one of those cards that I am more proud of than I really should be! I'm thrilled because this is my own design - a rare thing for me. I did get the idea of matting the stamped image from Susan (LOVE her cards!). I see now that I missed the idea of popping the mat up on dimensionals - oh well, next time! I'm also pleased because the card took me less than 15 minutes to come up with and put together - another rare thing for me! Plus it is a masculine card (no easy feat) AND both my Chocolate Chip and Sahara Sand card stock were scraps - the Sahara Sand piece already had the circle cut out! I'm a little disappointed that I don't have a bigger "Happy Birthday" stamp for a masculine card and that I smudged the "H" slightly. Oh well, at least my brother-in-law will know that it is hand made!

Easel Card

I used Darlene's card for inspiration for this card. I had never seen an easel card before and was quite intrigued by it. It was quite easy to make and I think it makes a great masculine card, even though it has ribbon on it!

I didn't take a picture of it closed up, but here is a side view of the card so you can see how the top folds down and makes the card look like a little present. Darlene has a tutorial on her blog if you wish to know how to make one.

Fresh Cut Inspired

I used my Cricut and SCAL software to create this card using Stampin' Up's Fresh Cut notes as inspiration. I took the image of the five petal punch and enlarged it to create the cut out and then cut a smaller version for the inside. I would have liked to have the inside connected to the outer edge, but I didn't have time to fiddle with it as once again I needed the card NOW! I'll try that another time!
