18th Birthday

I'm really proud of this card because it is 100% my own design. Almost all the cards that I have made have been inspired by cards created by somebody else. Sometimes they are a complete CASE and other times I add my own twist to the idea. This time, I came up with my own. I don't think the picture really does this one justice... I have got to get my cards sooner than I need them so I have time to make sure my pictures are good before I give them away!

I really wanted to have the number 18 on the card so that is where I started. My friend, Erin had given me a sheet of Hand Drawn Designer Series Paper so that is where the colour selection came from. I cut the scalloped square with my Cricut using the Mini-Monograms cartridge and the 18 was cut using the Sure Cuts A Lot software with the Arial Black font.

On the inside I used some word art by Bethany. She has lots of word art available on her blog and gives away a new one each day... she's definitely worth having on your Google Reader!

Big Birthday Candles

I used the idea of the retired Big Birthday Candles stamp to create this card. I just cut the candles with my paper cutter and the flames are made with my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software. I know I say this almost every time I use that software, but I LOVE it! I have made svg files of all the Big Shot and Sizzlet dies and the punches in the Stampin' Up catalogue using Inkscape. If anybody would like directions on how to do it or copies of my files, just leave me a comment or send me an e-mail. For the flames I used the a leaf from Leaves #2 (Spring Summer 2009) and just cut off the stem. The awesome thing about the Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software is that I was able make the flame whatever size I wanted and when I decided to add a piece of white card stock behind the flame I could make it just a smidgen bigger than the flame!

I just love the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper. It says in the catalogue that it has Orchid Opulence in it, but I think Pale Plum is a much better match. This card is for my niece's 12th birthday. She loves the colour purple so hopefully this card has enough purple in it.

Tickled Pink with Shelley

For the last card Shelley and I made together, we used JoAnn's card for inspiration! We used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to create the scallop just like the SU scallop punch. I used my paper-piercing tool and white gel pen to make eyelets in the scallop.

Seeing Spots with Shelley

Shelley chose to use Chloe's card that I had saved to used for inspiration. I CASED it very closely, while Shelley went with a different colour combination using one of my all time favourite DSP - Sweet Always. Shelley had some problems with my Regal Rose ink pad as it stamped too dark. We found it better to stamp it off first. Actually, in the end, Shelley decided to just use my Stampin' Marker to colour the stamp and then huff on it before stamping. I love how neat her bow is... I ended up redoing mine after I had photographed the cards!

Daisy Vase

I was very blessed to have my wonderful sister-in-law, Shelley and her son, Jacob here last week. Shelley is an awesome scrapbooker. We had the chance to make a few cards together. Shelley chose Mary's card for our inspiration. Here are our two versions:

Mine is the one on the left. I decided not to use the button and left off the vase base. I'm now wishing I had used the base and I'm thinking my sentiment should have been a little lower. I love Shelley's bright colours!

We used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to make the daisies and vases. The centers of the daisies were embossed with the Cuttlebug Build-A-Flower. Shelley hadn't seen Nestabilities so we used the oval and scalloped oval in my Big Shot for our sentiments.

Daisy Birthday

Oh my, it has been a long time since I've posted. I've made a few cards in the past few weeks that I'll get on this blog in the next few days. I've had company so blogging has not been at the top of the "To Do" list.


There is not much to say about this card that I made for my niece's 29th birthday. It is hard to see, but the black piece has been embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder. I don't know the name of the stamp I used. I inherited it from my sister-in-law. It has gifts on top of the sentiment that I just covered with tape while I was inking the "Happy Birthday".

Enjoy the Moment

I find masculine cards to be quite the challenge. I didn't know what to do for my nephew-in-law's birthday, but I knew I didn't want to do trees or stars as it seems that is all I have done lately for the males in my life. I was blogsurfing this morning and came across this card by Vicki, which I used as my starting point.

My original plan was to use three hats using Real Red and Brilliant Blue. The only problem was that for the life of me, I can't see to get a crisp image with my clear stamps and SU ink. If anybody has any helpful suggestions, please pass them on. I've tried everything - conditioning the stamps, stamping with VersaMark first, but they always turn out like this:
I decided to go back to my FAVOURITE ink for clear stamps - VersaFine. Since I only have it in Black Onyx, there was no choice to be made. When I got out my stamps, I liked the three candles so I decided to change from three hats to two hats and the candles. Of course, the candles didn't fit on the same size circle as the hats, so that changed the card even more.
I also decided to change my colour scheme just because I had Kiwi Kiss and Pacific Point cardstock nearby and I might as well use it up as it is now retired. When I glued the candle circle on, I really liked the look of the card so I took a picture in case I need a quick card one day. Which one do you like better?

17th Birthday

My daughter's seventeenth birthday is next week... I can't believe she's that old! I asked her what colour she wanted for her birthday card and she said bright green. Immediately my brain went to this card that was created by redbuggydriver for the Sketch Challenge 235 on Splitcoaststampers. I kept the colours of redbuggydriver's card and the layout. I just used the flower punch I had and used turquoise flowers on green squares and green flowers on turquoise squares, which is opposite from what she did. I made my card 5 1/2" square, which must be a bit bigger than redbuggydriver's as my diamond doesn't overlap the other squares. I think my daughter is going to like it!

Birds and Swirls Anniversary

Dannie's card was my inspiration for this card that I created this card for my niece and her husband's third wedding anniversary. I liked it so much that I made it again for my younger brother and his wife's anniversary. My mom's wedding invitations were made using the Birds and Swirls embossing folder, so I'm thinking I'll make this card for her too, but I'll use Pretty in Pink as the accent colour. My older brother and his wife are celebrating their 25th anniversary next month so maybe I'll use it for that too! Can you tell I like this card?

The base of the card is a 5" square because the largest square panel I can make with the Cuttlebug embossing folder is 4". I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to create the scallop,which is the same size as SU scallop punch. I also used the Cricut to make the scalloped circle (1.25"), turquoise circle (1") and white circle (0.85"). I love using my Cricut because I can easily make circles or any shape any size that I wish.

Farm Birthday

AAAAAGH! When will I learn to check my pictures before I mail the card. This is such a cute card, but such a lousy picture. You can't see the panel of "wood" on each door, let alone the texture of the paper. I created this card using nhoetker's card as inspiration for the outside, so check hers out to get a better idea of how it looks.

I used Michelle's punch pig for the inside. Using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software, I made my pig with a 2" body and 1.75" head so it would fit better in my 6" square card. I used a heart punch for the ears and a swirl punch from a craft kit of my daughter's for the tail. I used the window punch and star punch for his legs.

This card is for my youngest nephew who is turned six yesterday. He had a farm themed birthday party on the weekend. His mom is an AWESOME scrapbooker and cardmaker so there was a little pressure to create something special. I hope he liked it!
